Novatek’s long-term promotion of elementary school reading programs in rural Hualien – Writers Visiting Schools Sponsorship
Promote Reading in Rural Areas
In this semester’s reading club, students read the “119 Diary.” This teen novel records the story of a rookie firefighter in the form of a diary. For this event, book author Guang-Fu Li was invited to travel all the way from Taoyuan to meet with students from Hualien’s Guanghua Elementary School!
Mr. Li shared that while writing the book, in addition to gathering news materials, he actually visited a fire brigade eight times in order to make his story more accurate. For example, we often talk about signs of life, but the special term firefighters say and use is “vital signs.” Several students at the reading club mentioned that they want to be firefighters and police officers when they grow up. Mr. Li encouraged the students to work hard and set goals to attend a police academy or police university: “Dreams must be followed up with actions, and it starts by setting goals for academic performance”!
The Novatek Foundation has been promoting the reading programs for elementary schools in Hualien County’s rural areas for a long time. Through reading programs such as Morning Reading, Class Reading Club, Writers to Visit Schools, Physical Reading Camp, and Community Study tours, etc., students have been guided to experience the joy of reading, gradually developing their lifelong learning and reading skills.
