Problem to be solved
Reading skill is the foundation of lifelong learning. Insufficient family resources and cultural stimulation for students from disadvantaged families, coupled with the long-term limitation of education resource in rural areas, have resulted in inadequate learning resources for disadvantaged students, limiting their opportunities of studying or seeking jobs in the future and making the disadvantaged students to fall into a vicious circle of poverty. It is hoped that the program can develop the reading habits of the students in rural areas from an early age, eliminating the gap in education resources between urban and rural areas.

Reading Promotion Program for Rural Elementary Schools in Yunlin
We extend our sincere gratitude to the Novatek Education Foundation for its generous support, which has enabled students from the rural to participate in creative writing instructional activities. Since the 2013 academic year, our school has collaborated with the Novatek Education Foundation and the Mingdao Cultural and Educational Foundation to jointly promote and continuously develop a comprehensive “Reading Curriculum.” Held monthly, this program incorporates diverse approaches such as picture book reading sessions and writing instruction to stimulate students’ interest in reading and foster creative thinking. Through immersive local tours and experiential learning, students are able to extend classroom knowledge to broader, real-world contexts, thereby broadening their horizons and gaining valuable insights. Since the program’s implementation, students have gradually shifted from passive learning to active inquiry. Reading and writing have transcended the surface level of words, allowing students to deeply engage with the richness and limitless possibilities of the literary world. We once again thank the Novatek Education Foundation for inspiring our students’ minds and sparking their imagination, making reading a powerful companion in their development and continuously injecting hope and vitality into rural education.
Reading Promotion Program for Rural Elementary Schools in Hualien
Reading is both a skill and a source of joy! We sincerely thank the Novatek Education Foundation for its continuous support in promoting reading at Fuxing Elementary School. Through the Morning Reading program, we have witnessed the budding of students’ interest in reading. The "Body Reading" camp has taught students to express emotions through physical movement, using drama to demonstrate alternative reading outcomes. In-depth discussions in classroom reading groups have encouraged students to share their thoughts and feelings. Guided writing workshops have helped students overcome their fear of writing, empowering them to express their daily emotions with confidence. These diverse reading initiatives have revealed the multifaceted development of our students. Increasingly, children are taking the initiative to pick up books—immersing themselves in reading, sharing with peers, and expanding their learning through the power of literature. We hope the spark of reading ignited through these efforts will continue to fuel their passion for lifelong learning.
Yunlin Environmental and Ecological Story Camp for Disadvantaged Students
We sincerely thank the Novatek Education Foundation for its 13 years of continuous support, which has enabled schoolchildren in remote areas of Yunlin to access diverse learning opportunities and cultivate essential life skills and lifelong competencies—such as teamwork, communication, mutual respect and inclusion, and problem-solving. This year, the program centered around the theme of "Food," aligning with SDGs 2, 4, 12, and 13. Students were immersed in experiential learning, engaging directly with local farmers and communities to gain a deeper understanding of their hometowns and foster a sense of identity and belonging. We are especially grateful for the Foundation’s consistent involvement. This year, three college students who had previously participated in the program during elementary school returned as volunteers—transitioning from beneficiaries to contributors who recognize the importance of giving back to society.
