Volunteer Service

“Entering into children’s mind with love, and believing that companionship can change the children’s world” has been the intention of the Novatek Foundation’s volunteer team for many years. Through youth volunteer services, and by taking a one-to-one approach, visually impaired and disadvantaged students are guided to learning in real-life scenarios. In addition, having volunteers to accompany them encourages disadvantaged students to challenge themselves to new things, allowing them to enhance their interpersonal communication skills and increase their self-confidence. Moreover, since 2022, Novatek has sponsored the Air Quality Purification Zone at Hsinchu’s Horizon & Sea Viewing Area for 4 consecutive years, and arranged for corporate volunteers to regularly clean the environment, care for the landscaping, and even expand the maintenance and sponsorship area. Novatek is committed to contributing to environmental conservation and making efforts to maintain the surroundings, and it hopes to utilize its corporate power to make a difference. In 2025, Novatek organized one beach cleaning session, where Novatek volunteers joined hands with disadvantaged students to collect over 3 kg of waste at Nanliao, Hsinchu. Through environmental education and practical action, the Company aims to instill correct concepts and attitudes towards environmental conservation in young students. In addition, two rural campus volunteer programs were newly launched in 2025 to accompany students in rural areas in learning about biodiversity and strengthening their environmental education knowledge.

Over the past 16 years, Novatek volunteers have adhered to their original intentions and used practical actions to accompany visually impaired students, high-care teenagers, and disadvantaged students on their journeys of learning and growth. Through such efforts, Novatek was awarded the “Excellent Utilization Unit for Volunteer Service in Education” in 2019 and 2023 by the Youth Development Administration, Ministry of Education (MOE) and the “2018–2025 Youth Volunteer Service Excellence Promotion Unit” for 8 consecutive years, totaling ten recognitions through these two volunteer awards. In the future, we will continue to move forward with the momentum of love, give full play to the power of corporate volunteers, and contribute our own strength to give back to the society, bringing the warmth of love to wherever we go.

In addition, from 2022, Novatek has implemented a trial program for Corporate Volunteer Leave for four consecutive years, with each person entitled to 16 hours of volunteer leave per year. Throughout the year, a total of 4,536 volunteer hours was reached, encouraging employees to participate in social welfare in a more flexible and diverse manner, from the bottom up. This initiative allows Novatek to contribute to society and the environment, and fulfill its responsibility as a responsible corporate citizen.

Volunteer for accompanying visually impaired students on countryside tour and local food exploration

Problem to be solved

80% of human learning is based on the use of eyes. For children who lose their eyesight, this is equal to being behind a large proportion of normal children at the starting point of learning. For children who have congenital or acquired vision problems, due to the visual impairment, their learning and movements are limited.

Beneficiary:

Visually impaired students from Taichung School for the Visually Impaired, Changhua Visually Impaired Caring Association, and Huei-Ming School for Blind Children

Action plan:

Novatek, with image and display technologies as its core capabilities, has long been committed to enhancing and optimizing image display technologies to provide people with a better visual experience. Therefore, since the establishment of Novatek Foundation, it has chosen to serve a group of visually impaired students who cannot enjoy image or display services. Since 2010, the Foundation has been accompanying visually impaired students from Taichung School for the Visually Impaired and inclusive classrooms in Changhua, and conducting the “countryside tour and local food exploration courses for visually impaired students”. Through the one-to-one guidance provided by our volunteers, these students are led out of the school and into the natural world. By using the four- senses learning method of listening, touching, smelling, and tasting, they walk on trails with ecologically diverse natural habitats to appreciate the beauty of seasonal changes and recognize the characteristics of plants and animals, allowing them to use non-visual approaches to engage in agricultural experiences, local farming, and other activities.

Visually impaired students

We sincerely appreciate the thoughtful planning of a series of experiential learning programs for visually impaired students by the Novatek Education Foundation. The genuine companionship provided by the volunteers has become the strongest support for Huei-Ming students in exploring the world. Through the interactions in each activity, we have witnessed the children’s growth — from being initially shy and passive to gradually becoming proactive and open-minded in discovering the world around them. Seeing these changes has truly brought us great joy. With professionalism and empathy, Novatek volunteers have helped break through the barriers faced by visually impaired students, enabling them to experience the diversity of the world through different senses. We are deeply grateful for the dedication and care demonstrated by the Novatek Education Foundation.

Disadvantaged children

We sincerely appreciate the support provided by Novatek for our school’s “Night Angel Program.” Through this initiative, students are able to complete their homework after school under the companionship and guidance of teachers, enabling them to promptly correct mistakes and strengthen their understanding of academic content. After completing their assignments, students also participate in a variety of enrichment activities, including reading, board games, sports, and arts and crafts, while enjoying nutritious and satisfying evening meals. In addition, one outdoor education activity is organized each semester, providing students with opportunities to step beyond the classroom for experiential observation and learning. These experiences not only broaden their knowledge and perspectives, but also create valuable and lasting memories. Through consistent and long-term after-school companionship and support, students have demonstrated positive development in learning attitudes, daily discipline, and interpersonal interactions. The program has also effectively alleviated caregiving burdens on families, enabling children in rural communities to learn steadily and grow in a healthy and supportive environment.

Volunteers for high-care disadvantaged teenagers

Through the AI Vocal Creation Workshop experience, the children were introduced to the world of artificial intelligence for the very first time, allowing aspirations and imagination for the future to quietly take root in their hearts. During the exploration of the bicycle industry, they also gained insight into the continuous innovation and evolving possibilities within the sports industry. Through the long-term and thoughtful support of Novatek, particularly the two career exploration and experiential learning activities organized this year, the volunteers’ warm care, sincere companionship, and encouragement enabled children of different abilities and characteristics to better understand themselves while broadening their perspectives on diverse career pathways. We are deeply grateful to Novatek for standing alongside us throughout this journey, supporting these resilient Taiwanese children and accompanying them as they build confidence and strength through exploration and hands-on experiences. We hope that one day, each child will be able to discover and pursue a path uniquely their own.

My experience participating in the Tiezhen Shan activity that day was truly memorable. Along the way, I encountered many living organisms that I had never seen before and learned a great deal of new knowledge. We also saw a type of tree whose bark can be used like an eraser, which was very interesting. In addition to learning about trees, we also had the opportunity to taste lemon vinegar and lemon jelly, and even make candied lemons ourselves. I would love to participate again in the future, and I am very grateful to Novatek for organizing such a meaningful activity.
