Problem to be solved

Taiwan is facing a sharp decline in the number of doctoral students. Many doctoral students face financial pressure from their families. They often have to study while working to maintain their living needs and take care of their family expenses, making them difficult to devote themselves to academic research and technological innovation.

Scholarships for doctoral students

Since 2010, the Novatek Foundation has invested more than NT$67.08 million in sponsorships over 15 years to cultivate 262 outstanding talents with PhD and master’s degrees in electrical engineering and computer science. Novatek Scholarship winners have no obligation to hold posts or sign contracts. Over the years, the winners have engaged in the industry to serve as a new force in IC design and R&D, or devoted themselves to teaching and cultivating talents. In addition to the Novatek Scholarship, which is provided directly to outstanding students by the Foundation, the Company also has a long history of providing scholarships and academic research-related funds to various universities in a concerted effort to improve the higher education resources and energy in Taiwan.

Since 2010, the Novatek Foundation has established the Novatek Scholarship to continuously reward outstanding PhD and master’s students for their dedication to academic research and technological innovation, working jointly to contribute to the development of science education in Taiwan.

Starting in 2022, doctoral students are eligible to receive NT$50,000 per month (NT$600,000 per year) for a maximum of 60 consecutive months (5 years).

"Women in Tech" Initiative: Promoting the National Hsinchu Girls' Senior High School Science Education Development Program

Our school organized the "2024 Novatek Education Foundation National Hsinchu Girls' Senior High school Science Education Development and Reward Program," which included three science lectures with approximately 300 student participants. We also actively promoted science exhibition competitions, encouraging student involvement. A total of 11 projects won awards at the 64th Regional Science Fair (3 Special Excellence Awards, 3 Excellence Awards, and 5 Merit Awards), with two projects receiving the Teamwork Award at the 64th National Science Fair. We would like to express our gratitude to the Novatek Education Foundation for supporting our school in organizing science lectures and participating in competitions. For 2025, we expect to showcase 13 projects, which will further enhance student participation in science competitions.

I am truly honored to have been consecutively awarded the Novatek Doctoral Scholarship multiple times. This recognition is not only a valuable affirmation but also a continuous source of motivation, and it has further deepened my appreciation for the encouragement and responsibility that come with this acknowledgment. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Novatek for its long-standing support of academic research, and for using this scholarship to inspire young scholars to continue exploring the field of technological innovation. This scholarship has provided stable financial support, allowing me to focus more on my research work, alleviating the financial pressures of my academic journey, and enabling me to dedicate myself to technical breakthroughs and innovation. I am also deeply grateful for the carefully arranged networking sessions by Novatek, which have provided us with opportunities to listen to the experiences shared by senior industry experts, gain deeper insights into the practical applications of technology, and stay updated on industry development trends. These events have also allowed me to exchange ideas and learn from fellow doctoral scholars, thereby broadening my horizons. These valuable experiences have provided further inspiration throughout my research process and have enhanced the value and impact of my findings. Moving forward, I will carry this honor and gratitude with me, continuing my research in semiconductor chip design, and I hope to apply what I have learned to the development of the industry, contributing to technological advancement.

I am the recipient of the 2014 Novatek Foundation Doctoral Program Scholarship. Thank you very much for Novatek's willingness to invest resources in the cultivation of doctoral students. Being able to receive this award is not only a financial support, but more importantly, an honor and recognition of our research. Today, the number of Ph.D students in Taiwan is decreasing, but we still need PhD talents. We hope that Novatek will continue to promote scholarships for PhD programs, providing students with more opportunities and learning resources. I believe that the cultivated talents for sure will make a great contribution to Taiwan's industries in the future. Once again, I would like to thank Novatek Foundation for supporting me in the past. Thank you very much.
