Novatek Foundation Promotes Natural Environment Experience for Special Education Students in Rural Areas of Hsinchu - Highlights in November

Support for the Disadvantaged

With the rapid disappearance of forest resources and the deterioration of the environment, the importance of forests to people nowadays is far greater than that in the past, which in turn increases people’s dependence. This event used a fun and interactive approach to guide children to understand the importance of forests, the correlation between forests and climate change, and what choices we can make in our daily life to improve climate change.

The event was kicked off by presenting a set of “The Wonders of Taiwan” game books to the school. We hope that the students will learn the beauty of Taiwan’s peoples, lands and ecology through reading and deepen their impressions through games, allowing students to understand the importance of the forest through answering questions and the guidance of animation. The forest is the home of animals. It also provides food for animals, creating a delicate relationship in the natural ecology. The students played matching games with cards to learn about the connection between animals/insects/butterflies and plants. The special wilderness guide took the students on a journey to learn about the plant ecology surrounding their school, and to observe the beauty of plants on a microscopic level, as well as their unique relationship with insects/animals.

At the end of the day, the students learned about what can they do to reduce carbon emissions in their everyday life. To encourage the students to participate more in the activity, the volunteers offered hand-made camphor wood owls as gifts. During the event, the students were enthusiastically engaged in the activities, allowing the volunteers to receive abundant feedback. By sowing the seeds of environmental education, the Novatek Foundation hopes that these students will have a better understanding of environmental protection and climate change.
