Novatek Volunteers Join Visually Impaired Students on Community Walking Tours and Seasonal Food Experiences in Xinpu, Hsinchu

This was my first time volunteering with visually impaired students. To be honest, I was quite nervous at the beginning, because I had never interacted with them before. However, when I arrived at the site and met the young lady, all the nervousness disappeared. She was incredibly lively, and I ended up very comfortable with her without even realizing it. Our mission for the day was to help them explore the environment using their other senses. What touched me the most was when another visually impaired student learned that something was a bouquet of fragrant chrysanthemums. After touching and smelling it, she wanted to take the bouquet home and share it with her family. For us, it was a straightforward thing to do, but for the visually impaired student, it may have required some effort to fully appreciate. That's why we felt so blessed. Following that, we worked with them to make translucent dumplings and pick sugar tangerines. The process was quite joyful; the young lady I was working with even volunteered to make translucent dumplings for me and feed me oranges. It made us feel that all the effort was worthwhile.
I’m very grateful to the Novatek Foundation for organizing such meaningful events. In addition to giving us opportunities to care for visually impaired students, the event locations have been carefully selected to be uniquely Taiwanese places. This time, it was held in the Neili Community in Xinpu, Hsinchu County. That gave all the students a chance to savor Hakka-style cuisine and come in contact with all different kinds of flowers. During my university years, I served as a volunteer; but I never expected that after starting to work at Novatek, I would also get these kinds of opportunities to volunteer. Every volunteer event recharges me; it makes me realize how fortunate I am. At the same time, I see that there are many places in need of help and resources. To sum up, I welcome everyone to join us in volunteering and creating unforgettable memories.
