Novatek Foundation Continuously Promotes Reading Program for Rural Elementary School Students in Yunlin

Promote Reading in Rural Areas

Novatek Foundation Yunlin Rural Students Reading Program Takes Off "May every child be a seed, absorbing the nutrients from stories, growing into a tree full of wisdom and creativity." —— Creative Writing Teacher, Zhang Shi Ya

In March, as the new semester began, the beloved reading program for students in rural Yunlin also kicked off! This month, older students explored the infinite vitality contained within tiny seeds through stories such as "Cultivation," "And's Seed," and "The Magical Seed Shop." Many students have experience with planting, but how can the process of seed germination be described? It waits quietly in the soil, like being in a peaceful sleep, or like a small embryo in a mother's womb. Teacher Shi Ya led students from six schools to practice writing about the process and details of germination.

For younger students, the program, led by Teacher Jia Shi, involved shared reading of picture books related to animals:

"In the Angel Flies Over the World," a wordless picture book, follows a winged dog being adopted, cared for, and growing stronger and more mischievous day by day.

"The Nameless Cat," from the perspective of a stray cat, searches for its own name and true desires.

"Pet Lost," where kids in the community help a new girl look for her non-existent parrot. The more detailed the girl's description, the more precarious the lie becomes. "Missing Cat Notice," explores how to introduce a lost pet and describe its appearance and features.

Under the gentle guidance of two professional reading and writing teachers, students from six schools have planted the seeds of love for reading and writing. We hope these seeds will grow strong and vibrant with our continued nurturing. Through Novatek Foundation's 13 years of sustained investment and support for the Yunlin rural reading program, we ensure uninterrupted access to reading resources for children in rural areas.
