Reducing Plastic from Our Lives Together

The first Saturday of May volunteers from the Novatek Foundation accompanying visually impaired students to Yuanli for a marine education tour experience. In the morning, through a creative workshop on reducing plastic, instructors and Novatek volunteers carefully guided the participants, encouraging them to unleash their imaginations. They shared methods of reducing plastic in daily life, deepening everyone's understanding of the concept that "the ocean's plastic is my plastic." To enhance awareness of marine debris, the instructor replaced the indoor beach cleanup game's cards with actual marine litter, which had been cleaned and checked for safety beforehand. This allowed the participants to physically familiarize themselves with the types of waste found in the ocean and underscored the importance of reducing plastic at the source.

Beach Cleanup Action

Offering the Ocean Blessings with the Purest Intentions In the afternoon, the beach cleanup activity commenced. With the careful guidance of Novatek volunteers, the participants collected marine debris. The visually impaired students, with their heightened sense of hearing and touch, were also able to participate in the cleanup effort. Together, they collected 10 bags of general waste (fishing waste, styrofoam) weighing 32 kilograms, and 11 bags of recyclables (plastic bottles, cans) weighing 22 kilograms, totaling 54 kilograms of trash. This effort symbolized the precious dedication of the students and Novatek volunteers to the sustainability of the ocean.

With the thoughtful assistance of Novatek volunteers, who verbally described the surrounding environment, everyone felt more confident in completing all the activities. There is a hopeful anticipation that the spread of marine sustainability knowledge among volunteers and students will continue to expand our collective civic power.
