Novatek Volunteers Accompany Youth at Tsu-Hsin Children’s Home on a 3D Printing Career Exploration
Volunteer Service
Volunteer: Wu Shao-Wei
The volunteer service began on a slightly chilly morning, with an overcast sky casting a somewhat subdued atmosphere at the gathering point. Perhaps due to the long journey, the students who arrived later seemed a bit weary, but their eyes still sparkled with anticipation for the event, bringing vitality to the day's start.
The activity began with an introduction to the basic concepts of 3D printing technology by the instructor. This part posed some challenges for the middle and high school students with relatively limited background knowledge, as the theories and materials were quite abstract. However, when the instructor showcased some creative works made with 3D printing technology, the students' attention was immediately captured. Watching the intricate and exquisite items gradually take shape from the printer elicited expressions of awe, dissipating the initial gloom. This made me deeply realize that translating abstract knowledge into concrete practice can effectively stimulate enthusiasm and curiosity for learning.
In the latter part of the course, volunteers and students were divided into groups to participate in a challenge game designed by the instructor. Everyone actively shared their views, brainstorming and discussing how to overcome the challenges together. Some students quickly proposed solutions, while others found inspiration through discussion, making the group atmosphere very positive and efficient. Ultimately, when we successfully solved the problems, everyone wore proud and satisfied smiles.
Next, we visited the Tsinghua University campus. Despite the gloomy weather, this campus tour opened a new door for the students. During the visit, I overheard a few students privately discussing their imaginations of university life and starting to talk about the schools and majors they aspire to in the future. This campus visit not only broadened their academic horizons but also inspired them to think more about their lives and dreams for the future.
The highlight of the event took place in the afternoon when the instructor taught everyone some basic 3D printing software techniques and encouraged students to creatively design their own 3D works. Although the design process was simple, it required attention to many details to ensure successful printing. This process not only tested the students' creativity but also deepened their understanding of the connection between design and practice.
Life is like a blank sheet of paper, and dreams are the sketches on it; when we pick up the brush and apply our favorite colors, we can slowly create a colorful picture that ultimately represents ourselves. During this day of volunteer service, although the time was short, it planted seeds of learning and dreams in the students' hearts. I hope such experiences leave a lasting impression on their journey of growth, becoming a part of their path toward the future.
