A Benchmark for Sustainability in the Southern Taiwan Science Park: The Perfect Integration of Technology and ESG
On November 26, Novatek Microelectronics Corp. held the groundbreaking ceremony for the new "Novatek Tainan R&D Center". This smart and energy-efficient research facility is strategically located at the intersection of Nanke South Road and Nanke 2nd Road, featuring seven above-ground floors and three underground levels. In the future, this building will become a new landmark for technological innovation and sustainability within the Southern Taiwan Science Park.
An R&D Building Inspired by IC Technology
The “Novatek Tainan R&D Center" will encompass office spaces and research laboratories, with its design inspiration drawn from the company's core product—Smart Imaging and Smart Display ICs, embodying the beauty of chip integration and innovation. The internal space is primarily designed around a large central office area, complemented by small discussion zones and innovative meeting spaces, creating an efficient work environment that fosters creativity. The building's L-shaped design enhances spatial efficiency, while the main facade retreats in layers and incorporates green terraces, symbolizing Novatek's vision of continuous growth.
A Green Building with Multiple Certifications
In collaboration with the renowned BaF architectural firm, Novatek has integrated environmental responsibility into the architectural design, aiming for multiple certifications, including LEED, WELL, Smart Building, Green Building, and Energy Efficiency labels. The building design employs shading on the facade and air flow management to significantly reduce energy consumption, achieving a 25% increase in energy efficiency. It will also feature a 360 kW solar panel system on the roof. Altogether, this will result in approximately 2 million kWh of power savings annually, which will reduce carbon emissions by 1,000 metric tons. Additionally, a water-saving design will conserve about 1,200 metric tons of water resources each year.
A Friendly Environment Focused on Employee Well-being
Novatek prioritizes the quality of life for its employees, creating a healthy, efficient, and flexible work environment. The office floors will include a two-story flexible interaction space with various seating configurations to promote interaction and adaptability for different work and leisure needs. The building will also feature employee welfare facilities such as a cafeteria, gym, massage room, and medical clinic, reflecting the company’s commitment to employee well-being and ESG sustainability.
The "Novatek Tainan R&D Center" is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2027, providing 1,000 R&D positions in the Southern Taiwan Science Park, with an estimated annual revenue contribution of NT$30 billion. We anticipate that this R&D center will serve as a core venue for inspiring innovation, fostering collaboration, and caring for employee welfare, leading the company and its partners into the future. It will strengthen Novatek's leading position in the global semiconductor industry and promote a harmonious coexistence of technology and environmental sustainability.
