On the journey toward net-zero emissions and a circular economy, every everyday choice can become a catalyst for positive environmental change. Novatek partnered with Taiwanese sustainable fashion brand Story Wear to launch a pre-owned denim upcycling initiative, transforming idle resources into renewed value through a series of activities including clothing donation drives, circular design, sustainability workshops, and hands-on crafting experiences. The program brought sustainability closer to employees’ daily lives while demonstrating Novatek’s commitment to environmental stewardship, social inclusion, and employee engagement through meaningful ESG actions.
410 Pairs of Jeans Reborn Through Collective Action Novatek organized a ten-day denim collection campaign across its five office locations, receiving an enthusiastic response from employees. A total of 181 employees donated 410 pairs of jeans, helping extend the life cycle of garments that might otherwise have been discarded.
The initiative encouraged employees to start with a simple act of organizing their wardrobes and rethinking the value of everyday items. By channeling unused clothing into a circular reuse system, participants contributed to reducing waste and resource consumption while supporting the development of a circular economy through tangible action.
Story Wear, Novatek’s partner in this initiative, has long championed sustainable fashion by creating upcycled products through 100% handmade production. Its production network brings together local tailors, nonprofit organizations, and members of cerebral palsy associations, creating opportunities not only to extend the lifespan of textile materials but also to provide employment and social participation opportunities for underrepresented groups. Through this collaboration, every donated pair of jeans embarked on a new journey, demonstrating the limitless potential of resource regeneration and inclusive value creation.
Denim Scraps Reimagined as Dragon Boat Festival Fragrance Sachets Building on the success of the denim collection campaign, Novatek further advanced the spirit of circularity by collaborating with Story Wear to upcycle leftover denim fabric generated during the production process. These fabric remnants were creatively redesigned into Dragon Boat Festival-themed denim fragrance sachets, combining craftsmanship, functionality, and aesthetics while embodying the principles of zero-waste design.
Two hands-on workshops were offered as part of the initiative, with all available spots quickly filled. Through cutting, threading, and sewing, employees crafted their own unique denim creations while gaining insights into the value of circular fashion and sustainable design through both educational sessions and practical experience.
The transformation of discarded fabric into innovative new products showcased the possibilities of resource circularity and helped make sustainability concepts more tangible and relevant to everyday life. By engaging directly in the creative process, employees experienced firsthand how waste materials can be reimagined into meaningful and useful products.
Creating Positive Environmental and Social Impact Through Everyday Actions From collecting used jeans to upcycling denim remnants, the initiative encouraged employees to embrace sustainability in their daily lives through active participation and sustainability education.
