The Youth Development Administration, Ministry of Education originally scheduled to hold the awarding ceremony for the young volunteer awards on 5/23 (Sun). The awarding ceremony was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Novatek Education Foundation was awarded the 2020 Young Volunteer Excellent Utilization Unit and would like to share with you the achievements for winning the award on the special issue. Thanks to Novatek's volunteers for their selfless participation in the events, allowing us to create more heartwarming and beautiful stories for society.
Accompanying You in Expanding the World You See and Breaking the Limit Prejudice obscures the light of good intention "You cannot cook because it’s too dangerous; you do not need to develop artistic skills and creativity because it is not required; you cannot go out to enjoy nature because you are unable to." The prejudice of others owing to their good intention often limits or obscures the possibilities of learning for the visually impaired. Despite that, Novatek, which focuses on image and display technology, has gradually brought better visual enjoyment to the public, while offering services to visually impaired students who are unable to see images. Since 2010, Novatek volunteers have been accompanying the visually impaired students on trips based on the one-on-one approach.
See colors from each other "It is difficult to express the world you see verbally". In the course of accompanying the students in experiencing nature, besides being with the students at all times, it is also necessary to allow them to understand the outside world through verbal methods, making use of description or other senses to provide them a rich and diverse lesson. "When the visually impaired students insisted on using the colors that they wanted for artistic creation, we realized that their world was not as dark as we expected. Although their eyes cannot see colors, their mind can definitely see colors.” Through the building of companionship little by little, Novatek volunteers and the students gradually become friends, gaining different understandings of each other's lives.
Warmth keeps flowing in the invisible place "Because they cannot see, they must hold each other’s hands more tightly to feel each other’s temperature, and get closer to each other; because they cannot see, they must listen to each other’s words more carefully, feel each other’s tone, and understand each other’s intention; because they cannot see, they must taste the delicious food more carefully, feel the characteristics of the food, and eat happily!" Children who have lost their vision have a stronger sense of taste, smell, hearing, and feeling. CEO Ai-Ru Peng shared that many Novatek volunteers are learning while accompanying the visually impaired students. Service is a two-way flow of warmth, and it is also a way for Novatek volunteers to find the simplest attitude towards life in the chaotic and busy world. It is this kind of atypical proposal for life that gives the volunteers different perspective.
