The Novatek Foundation Collaborates with Sinsiang Association to Promote Authors' Visits in Schools, Meeting with Elementary Students in Hualien
Promote Reading in Rural Areas
For a decade, the Novatek Education Foundation has continued its partnership with the Sinsiang Association to promote a reading program in remote elementary schools in Hualien. This year, they have once again advanced to Guofu Elementary School in Hualien, leading students in reading sessions. They chose the youth novel "Quirky Spirits: The Last Swamp Specter" by author Chen Que, adapted from the classic literary masterpiece "Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio". Recently, the "Authors into Schools" event was held, where they met with students, receiving a warm welcome from the principal and teachers.
Chen Que's "Quirky Spirits" series ingeniously and vividly reinterprets the original stories, omitting content unsuitable for children, and presents the language in a refined and lively manner, giving a fresh face to "Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio". This allows children to enjoy reading that is both fun and thought-provoking, while also delving into the world of classical Chinese literature, enhancing their language skills. The series has been selected for inclusion in the Ministry of Culture’s recommended reading lists for elementary and middle school students.
Chen Que stated that writing is both a hobby and a specialty, with inspiration coming from life. Even though the "Quirky Spirits" stories are based on "Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio", they also incorporate many of his own experiences and examples from students’ essays, bringing a smile to readers’ faces and fostering a greater appreciation for "Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio".
