Novatek Volunteers Accompany Visually Impaired Students on a Cultural and Culinary Experience in Miaoli's Xihu Old Street
Volunteer Service
Volunteer/Zhang Tangzheng This was my second time participating in a volunteer activity for visually impaired students. I was quite nervous beforehand, worried that I might not do well enough causing inconvenience to others. Fortunately, upon arrival, I found the children to be incredibly lively and easy to get along with, and the activities planned were just right, which put me at ease. First, we explored Xihu Old Street, marveling at the distinctive Mazu stone statues, quaint tangerine stores, and blacksmith shops. It felt like traveling back in time to Taiwan in the 1950s, experiencing the stories of various characters. Next, we visited the Chai Burning Capanni to make pizzas. Working hands-on with the students, we felt the texture and temperature of each ingredient. The students were delighted with the finished product, proving that happiness can indeed be simple! In the afternoon, we took an electric tour car around Xihu. As the driver, I took the children to experience the beauty of nature, observing the lush greenery, feeling the gentle breeze, and listening to them recite Tang poetry. The afternoon sun filtered through the trees onto the path, illuminating our worlds beyond darkness, and warming our hearts. I am grateful to the Novatek Foundation for organizing this volunteer event, which taught me that giving is truly the greatest joy, and helping others is the happiest learning. Witnessing the sincere smiles of the children allowed me to find the extraordinary in the ordinary.
