Novatek Volunteers Support Tzu-Hsin Youth in Exploring Careers in Pet Grooming

Volunteer Service

"Teacher, what career field will the brothers and sisters from Novatek take us to explore this time?" Since 2018, the Novatek Foundation has organized biannual career exploration trips, accompanying children from the Tsu-Hsin Children’s Home to various counties and cities for hands-on career exploration experiences. The aim is to enrich and broaden the youths' perspectives regarding career recognition and choices through diverse workplace field visits.

This time, the visit to Zhubei introduced them to the pet care profession, covering work types, certification exams, and salary structures within the field. Through hands-on practice, they experienced grooming dogs. The youths amusingly shared, "During the grooming process, I discovered that dogs could look so much younger after being brushed!" and "I realized that bathing pets involves such complex steps and requires professional skills." The instructor also shared the key mindset for entering this field: maintaining "patience, love, and a childlike heart," and practicing how to adapt to the noisy sounds of animals during work. In the afternoon, the instructor and Novatek volunteers guided the youths in creating unique, lifelike felted dogs. Everyone focused on visualizing their ideal pets while practicing grooming techniques and learning how to use scissors. Through this creative and experiential educational practice, the youths gained a more practical understanding of the pet grooming industry, marveling at the seemingly simple job that, in fact, involves many intricacies.

With the whole-day accompaniment of Novatek volunteers, the youths were provided with special learning opportunities. Through workplace experiences, they had the chance to understand the nature of various professions through practical operations, enhancing their industry knowledge and expanding their career planning visions.
