Novatek X Wilderness Hsinchu | Five Senses Dining Table—Campus Plants and Green Care

Environmental Education

Novatek Education Foundation has collaborated with the Society of Wilderness for the third year to provide rural children with natural experience programs. Pinglin Elementary School in Guanxi and Zhaomen Elementary School in Xinpu have both completed their second event.

We revisited the planting activity from the first session, then introduced the art of plating with a touch of creativity in daily life, combining it with our food. This approach not only stimulates appetite but also offers a beautiful dining experience. Students gathered ingredients from the campus, such as West Indian cherries and butterfly pea flowers, and used bird's nest fern leaves and banana leaves for table setting. They cooked dishes with Chuan Qi and purple flower vinegar grass; and led everyone in using edible plants like fragrant marigolds and mugwort to create unique, dyed eggs. By using materials that are usually not utilized in daily life for egg dyeing, each egg turned out to have its own unique pattern.

Students worked in groups and divided tasks among collecting, washing, chopping, cooking, plating, and serving. They also made a personalized gradient drink with butterfly pea flowers grown on campus. This activity not only bridged the gap from farm to table but also integrated natural science experiments on acidity and alkalinity with life aesthetics. By engaging the five senses and taking a hands-on approach, the students were able to feel and enjoy their own unique flavors!
