Novatek Volunteers Accompany Children from Hsinchu Renai Children's Orphanage for a Maritime and Astronomy Science Experience
Volunteer Service
Volunteer: Zhu Yizhen
Although this was my second time participating in a volunteering event organized by the Novatek Foundation, it was my first time interacting with children from an orphanage. Before the trip, I was quite worried about my lack of experience, and on the day of the event, I felt anxious and nervous. Fortunately, the little girl I was paired with was very outgoing and adorable. When we first met and I was looking for her, she happily waved at me and said loudly, "It's me~ Sister, it's me~!" This immediately put my concerns at ease, and we began to get to know each other and chat.
A memorable moment was during our conversation on the bus ride. The little girl shared with me that she "only cried three times while sleeping last night, which was an improvement because she cried four times the night before." I was momentarily at a loss for how to respond. After thinking for a bit, I said to her, "Let's have fun all day today, and when we're tired, we can go home and sleep with happy dreams, okay?" She smiled and nodded in agreement. Our itinerary for the day included a morning visit to the Maritime Museum to learn about the history of cargo ships, followed by an afternoon at the Astronomical Science Education Center to learn about the universe. We held hands as we explored, and seeing her curiosity and focus as she listened intently with other children to the tour guides, I felt a warm and fulfilling sensation.
I am grateful to the Novatek Foundation for organizing such a meaningful event. Through fun and educational activities, they provided the children with unique learning opportunities and companionship, enriching their life experiences while also warming the hearts of us volunteers. As the event came to an end and we waved goodbye to the children, who were reluctant to part, it all felt worthwhile. I hope that through our companionship, the children will have wonderful memories and happy dreams at night.
