Volunteer Service

Volunteer: Lin Jun-Ye

This was my second time participating in Novatek's volunteer activities, and the event focused on accompanying children from Taichung Tsu-Hsin Children’s Home to learn how to effectively use various AI tools. By using the right tools, they can generate precise keywords to create all sorts of amazing content. Before the event, I was somewhat worried about having a generation gap when communicating with middle and high school students, especially since I have been away from campus life for quite some time (I was surprised to learn that there is an 11-year age gap between me and a high school freshman!). However, once the event started, I realized these worries were unnecessary.

The instructor led us through ice-breaking activities in a very professional manner, helping me connect with the high school freshman today. We even discovered a shared interest: cooking! After that, our interaction became very relaxed and enjoyable. What impressed me most was when he happily shared his recent accomplishment—breaking the school record for the shortest time to cut an onion, only 20 seconds! This kind of pure joy and pride is truly infectious.

Although the course on that day was relaxed and fun, the content was very enriching. The main focus of the course was using AI to create a sophisticated PPT from scratch. Initially, we just needed to decide on the report theme and audience, then use ChatGPT to identify key issues and solutions related to the theme and extend them into a presentation outline. Additionally, we learned how to use lyrics generated by ChatGPT to create music with various styles through Suno, and use Bing Image Creator to produce beautifully styled images. Finally, we integrated these elements into a completed PPT using Gamma. I was surprised to find that, once familiar with the process, all of this could be completed within an hour and entirely for free! It seems that learning AI tools is truly a trend, and when used appropriately, they can greatly facilitate our lives.

I believe this event was very well-organized, as with the help of AI tools, children can explore various career contents at a very low cost, allowing them to assess their interests and talents in different fields. This experiential learning not only helps them discover their interests but also aids them in better understanding their future development directions. I hope Novatek will continue to offer more enriching volunteer service opportunities, as I would love to participate again and provide help and support to more children!
