Novatek Advances Rooftop Solar Project for R&D Building to Implement Environmental Sustainability

Sustainability

Novatek Microelectronics is proactively advancing toward green energy and sustainability. The rooftop of its R&D building—co-owned by three affiliated companies—has been idle common space. Since December 2023, Novatek has actively coordinated the other two companies’ intentions to lease the rooftop and fully outsource the construction of a solar power system. After a year of effort, the three companies reached a consolidated agreement and notarized the construction contract in December 2024. Construction commenced in July 2025 after obtaining approval from the competent authority, resulting in a newly installed solar generation facility with a capacity of 499 kW.

The project was completed, inspected, and officially commissioned on 2025-12-29. Annual generation is expected to be between 550,000 and 600,000 kWh. The renewable electricity produced at the site will be fed into the Taiwan Power Company power grid and repurchased by the three companies according to their equity shares at a price below market rate. As the R&D building is over 30 years old, this collaboration puts the long-unused rooftop to productive ESG-aligned use. Benefits include a secured supply of green power, reduced indoor temperatures, protection of the roof’s waterproofing membrane, and decreased building air-conditioning energy consumption. This project further demonstrates Novatek Microelectronics’ proactive coordination and commitment to environmental sustainability, serving as a successful model of industry collaboration toward sustainability.
