Novatek Volunteers Accompany Youth in Residential Care Institutions in Exploring Careers as Professional Organizing Specialists

Volunteer Service

This was my first time participating in a volunteer activity organized by Novatek. Prior to the event, I felt somewhat nervous and concerned about whether I would be able to interact effectively with the children. However, once the activity began, I quickly realized those concerns were unnecessary. When discussing topics of interest, the children became very enthusiastic and engaged. Contrary to my initial expectations, they were not shy at all—when invited by the instructor to share their thoughts, most of them expressed themselves confidently and openly.

The theme of this session focused on organizing and storage skills. Given that the children currently live in environments with relatively limited personal belongings and have not owned their own items for extended periods, it was understandably challenging for them to fully relate to the concept of “decluttering” or to have short-term needs related to interior aesthetics and soft furnishings. As a result, parts of the instructor’s content did not strongly resonate with them during the session. That said, after the class, the children shared that they had still learned several practical techniques they could apply in daily life. Interestingly, many Novatek colleagues found the session highly engaging and were able to better understand and internalize the concepts introduced by the instructor.

Overall, the experience was highly rewarding and allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of these young participants. In many ways, they are not very different from how I was at the same age—enjoying video games, reading comics, playing basketball, focusing on graduating in the near term, and aspiring to travel abroad and achieve financial success in the future. Beyond the meaningful interaction, I also gained valuable organizing and storage skills and developed a deeper appreciation for the profession of a professional organizing specialist.
