Novatek Foundation Collaborates with Yunlin Story House to Host the Second Session of the "Taste of Yunlin" Story Camp
Promote Reading in Rural Areas
How much do you know about the journey of food from farm to table? How is it grown? Where does it come from? For children aged 10-12, the concept of three meals a day often lacks clarity, not to mention understanding the "eat local, eat seasonal" principle of "low-carbon diet."
In the second session of the summer storytelling camp, we guided 28 students from 11 schools across 6 townships on a "market mission." They consulted with vendors about the origin, seasonal availability, and cultivation methods of produce. If not in season, how is it preserved? If not local, where is it sourced from? The students then engaged in hands-on learning with the ingredients they purchased, from washing rice and selecting vegetables to preparing ingredients. They collaboratively cooked a delicious lunch using low-carbon methods, and shared the knowledge they gained about vegetables, fruits, meats, and seafood through group discussions. This helped them understand the cultivation process and how to practice low-carbon eating in daily life.
Only through personal experience can children develop lifelong skills. The summer storytelling camp provided children with limited learning resources in Yunlin with a wonderful learning journey, expanding their life experiences and perspectives!
