Novatek Volunteers Accompany Visually Impaired Students on Hsinchu Jianshi Trail and Herb Village Experience

Volunteer Service

Volunteer: Zhong Wanyu

I have volunteered before, but this was my first time working with visually impaired students. I was a bit nervous before setting out, as our morning activity was to walk the Frog Rock Trail in Jianshi. However, after following instructional videos and communicating with the students, it wasn't difficult. Even though the trail has many steps, as long as instructions are clear, most of us were able to accompany the students at a normal pace throughout the walk.

This time, I was paired with a high school student who told me that she usually stays indoors, so she loves being in the sun. It made me realize that what we consider a normal outing can be a rare experience for them. In the afternoon, we had a DIY mosquito repellent and herb experience. After volunteers explained the locations of items, most students were able to complete the tasks independently, using their sense of smell and touch to learn about herbs, and interacted with the instructor through questions and answers. I really enjoyed the itinerary, and if given the chance, I would definitely participate in volunteer activities again.
