Novatek Volunteers Accompany Rural "Night Light Angels" Students for Maritime and Astronomy Science Experience
Volunteer Service
Volunteer: Chan Hsiao-lan
The weekend weather was pleasant and cool after the typhoon passed. Today, we accompanied the "Night Light Angels" elementary school students for a day of experiential learning. Our first stop was the Evergreen Maritime Museum, a permanent exhibition. As the one who grew up in Taipei, I was surprised to discover a venue for both leisure and learning near the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. Seeing artifacts from the Titanic and shipbuilding models was truly moving. Every time I participate in volunteer service, I feel like I discover a new world—how vast the world is!
The story of Evergreen Marine’s chairman purchasing the first second-hand cargo ship and persisting to build a fleet of hundreds of Evergreen ships navigating globally parallels the efforts of people striving towards different goals in every corner of society. Our second stop was the Taipei Astronomical Museum, a place full of knowledge and entertainment. Riding the space exploration facilities felt like entering an amusement park, with a hint of Disney magic. The young students thoroughly enjoyed themselves. My strongest childhood memory of the planetarium is the full-dome theater, similar to the sphere in Las Vegas, offering an immersive sensory experience. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, we couldn't fully explore the mysteries of the universe, but the museum is definitely a place worth spending an entire day. It makes you want to become an astronaut after staying there long enough!
The day was ending quickly, and a young girl specially held my hand as we went to the restroom, then we said our goodbyes. But I know we will meet again!
